Chanting 'Om' Before Tasks

Deity: Omkara (Pranava) · Source: Vedic / Yogic tradition (Pranava Om) · Beginner

Transliteration

Oṃ

The practice of chanting Om before beginning any task — work, study, cooking, creative effort — consecrates the action and dedicates it to something larger than personal outcome. Om is the primordial sound from which all creation arises.

ॐ

A few seconds of Om before beginning changes the quality of what follows. The mind shifts from mechanical doing to conscious participation. Even a single Om can interrupt the momentum of distraction and recall the practitioner to present awareness.
