About This Practice
Dry-brush the body with raw silk gloves (or a natural bristle brush) toward the heart to mobilize kapha and awaken the channels.
Ayurveda describes udvartana and garshana as rukshana (drying) therapies indicated for kapha accumulation; unlike abhyanga, they reduce rather than nourish.

How to Practice
- Stand in a warm bathroom or bedroom before the shower.
- Brush the limbs in long strokes toward the heart — arms, legs, hips, shoulders.
- Use circular strokes on the joints and belly, always brushing toward the heart.
- Work the whole body for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Follow with a warm shower; skip oiling if kapha heaviness is strong.
✦
Benefits
- Activates channels on heavy, sluggish mornings
- Provides friction that liquefies kapha stagnation
- Primes the body for movement rather than sinking into rest
