"Today, I hold steady presence without rescuing."

Daily Sankalp · · Beginner
The Sankalp

When someone I love is struggling today, I practice staying present without trying to fix, solve, or lift them out of what is theirs to walk.

Niti teaches discriminating between where help serves and where it disempowers. The Mahābhārata counsel on mitra-dharma distinguishes sāhāyya (support) from para-kārya (doing another's work for them). Growth × relationships sankalp in this register is the practice of sustained presence without the rescuer-reflex. The vow is to not abandon the person and to not rob them of their own walk.

✦
  1. When the urge to fix rises, take one breath before speaking.
  2. Ask what they need rather than offering what you would do.
  3. Stay present; do not bail when you cannot solve.
  4. Trust the other's capacity to walk their own path.
  • Breaks the rescuer-reflex that erodes long bonds
  • Respects the other's agency
  • Sustainable over years of close relationship
  • Distinguishes seva from over-function
