"I Name The State Without Becoming It"

Daily Sankalp · Mitra v3.0 Stub · Beginner
The Sankalp

I can say what I am feeling without collapsing into it or being defined by it.

Sakshi-bhava is the witness quality — the capacity to observe what is arising within you without being completely absorbed into it. Viveka discerns the difference between the state and the one who is experiencing it. When you can name an emotion without becoming it — when you can say 'I am angry' rather than being anger — you retain enough distance to respond rather than react.

✦
  1. Say the state aloud: angry, afraid, ashamed — and notice how naming it creates space.
  2. You are not the anger; you are the one who can see it.
  3. A named state loses half its grip.
  • Reduced overwhelm
  • Inner distance
  • Composure
